Orders of Magnitude
How good is your gut at ballpark numbers?
You'll get 6 questions about absurd quantities. Don't sweat the exact number, just pick the power of ten that's closest.
There's a new puzzle every day, the same six questions for everyone. Missed one? It's in Past puzzles.
- Drag the slider (or swipe sideways, use ← → keys, or the mouse wheel) to set the number of zeros, then hit Submit (or Enter).
- 100 points for the right power of ten, fewer the further off you are.
How it works
Every day you get six questions about ridiculous quantities: how many windows there are in Manhattan, how much pee you'll make in a lifetime, that sort of thing. You don't have to guess the exact number. You just pick how many zeros it has.
Nobody knows these off the top of their head, and that's the point. It's about gut feeling and a bit of napkin maths. Getting within a zero or two is already pretty good.
Scoring. Nail the right power of ten and you get 100 points. Miss, and you lose points for every zero you're off, though big answers are more forgiving than small ones: one zero off at 102 gets you 50, but one zero off at 1030 still gets you 91, because at that scale nobody really knows the answer to within a factor of ten anyway. Miss by too many zeros and you get nothing: two at 102, six at 109, eleven at 1030. Six questions, 600 points max.

The questions are invented by humans, with help from AI. Every answer is a best estimate, and after each round the game explains where the number comes from.
